Many people find it hard to deal with who they really are, so they try to become something that is more acceptable according to what society thinks is acceptable. t’s truly important to understand ourselves because in the end, we are the only ones who have our backs completely. You can’t truly depend on anyone else other than yourself. The foundation of your relationship with yourself is one of the most important things that you need to set up in life. Loving and accepting yourself as you are will open so many doors to what truly matters in this world. Below are some of the things that helps me improve my relationship with myself and also possibly help you on how to love yourself.
Create playlists on Spotify
I'm a music nerd and was a music snob growing up. Now that I'm a little older, I'm not as snobby with my music choices anymore. Music always puts me in a better mood. But the whole point of making playlists is to make yourself feel better. Create a positive and upbeat playlist that puts you in a good mood. Don't create a playlist that you can cry with. You want to feel happy, not sad. Sad music is great to help you get through a tough time, but don't prolong it, as it will only encourage you to stay in a sad and depressed mood. Create playlists that make you happy.
Write in my journal
Writing in my journal helps me a lot to understand my emotions. I'm filled with emotions, but often don't know where to place them. Writing helps me with that. It's therapeutic as well, especially during the times when I feel like I have no one to talk to.
Feel gratitude for all that I have in my life
Taking a small moment each day to think about all the things that I'm grateful for in my life shifts my attitude and puts me in a better frame of mind. It reminds me that life is a beautiful gift and that I'm truly lucky for all that I have in my life. When I fill myself with gratitude, I feel more positive and feel kinder towards myself as well.
Take care of myself
This is probably one of the most important things that you can do for yourself. Making the effort to care about yourself will drastically help you love yourself. And I'm not just talking about taking care of yourself physically, but mentally as well. Taking care of yourself physically by exercising, eating healthier, and dressing up nice helps boost your confidence. But in my opinion, taking care of yourself mentally is even more important, if not the most important thing that you can do in order to love yourself. Meditating has helped improve my mood a lot. It connects me to my true self and reminds me that I am more than my body, my thoughts and what I do. It gives me a sense of peace about who I really am.
Read/Listen to Audio books & Podcasts
I love reading books and listening to podcasts that helps me improve myself in some way. I tend to gravitate towards self-improvement, business and design topics. Learning how others improve their lives in whatever aspect of their lives is extremely helpful to me in getting inspired to applying it towards my own life.
When creating something, it's so important to not let the idea of finishing what you're creating the main goal of creating. Sure, it's an amazing feeling to finish something you made, but what's truly valuable about making something is the process itself. The process of drawing, painting, building, cooking, sewing, etc, is where you will find real value in yourself. You will learn so much and get lost in the moment. When you find yourself lost in the moment, and truly enjoy the process of creating, that state of bliss is something that can really change your life. It's almost like meditating in a sense. Let go of the idea of having the end result be perfect as well. It's not about being perfect. It's something that you made, and you should be proud that the result you made is a product of a process that you felt good in creating.
