Atom is an open source text editor. It's beautiful and highly customizable and my current text editor of choice. It's amazing for beginners and makes the user feel comfortable using it. Notepad++ was the first text editor I've ever used. From a designer point of view, it's not exactly the most attractive text editor. But if you don't care about aesthetics and not shallow like I am, Notepad++ is an awesome editor to work with, as it's fast and practical to use.
