There's this trend on social media (more specifically Instagram) where people use the follow then unfollow method for gaining followers. This is a very popular method in gaining more followers in a shorter period of time.
How does it work?
The first thing you do is you follow others on instagram. Look for people who are in your niche, as they will most likely follow you back. Search for them using hashtags that are related to what you do, and find people who you already follow and follow the people who follow them as well.
Once you follow all of these people, start getting active on their profiles. Leave comments and like their photos. Showing that you are active will help you to get them to follow you back and engage more on your own profile.
When you feel you are ready, start unfollowing people slowly. Unfollow those who never followed you back, and other accounts that you feel you don't want to follow anymore.
While I myself do a part of this, I don't agree with unfollowing those who follow you back, especially those that are very active. I only unfollow those who don't follow me back.
The Follow for Follow Method
The follow/unfollow method works but I feel the follow for follow method is better. Building a community and relationships with other small business owners, freelancers, bloggers, etc, is always a good idea, even on social media. Lets support each other more with our goals instead of only looking after ourselves all the time. Follow for follow won't make you look insta-famous, but it does create more of a community like feel, which I think is valuable in itself.
What do you think? Do you follow to unfollow or do you prefer follow for follow?
